In Final Fantasy II , players could saddle up and take a trip not on horses, but ‘Chocobos’; large, birds capable of sprinting at impressive speeds. 1. Homefront

Homefront had a lot of promise behind it. Instead of being an ultra-futuristic space shooter or one taking place in a famous historical war, it would take place in the near future and tell the close-to-home story of a battle between scattered U.S. Forces and an oppressive Korean government. It was something different and held a lot of expectations as a new force in FPS gam

Speaking of studios that have been missing in action for awhile, Rocksteady’s next major release has likely been in development for two years, but we still don’t have an inkling as to what it could be. There have been rumors that Rocksteady’s next title will be a Superman game or something else involving DC comic heroes, but nothing official has been announced so far. Batman: Arkham Knight launched two years ago, and the small Batman: Arkham VR project released last year, so fans should be able to expect to see something from Rocksteady sooner rather than la

But earning those power-ups isn’t as simple as spending one’s earned coins, it’s actually facilitated via the game’s coolest feature. After each level players accumulate a certain number of dice rolls, which determine the improvements they have access to. Rather than being able to increase your damage percentage outright, players have to hope they roll the appropriate number and land on that space. It’s quite an ingenious little addition, and helps keep that carrot-on-a-stick always out of re

Well, not exactly. For starters, none of the three things mentioned made it into the game. Yes, your character did grow up, but via a timeskip rather than over time. You could choose between good and evil, you could get married, you could make your character fat or thin, but it ultimately didn’t mean anything. The ending was still the same and your choices really didn’t change much of anything. All the choices seemed tacked on for gimmick’s sake. Still, Fable has its fans who enjoy it for what it is but it didn’t contain everything Molyneux said it would, and that’s why it makes it onto the l

Chances are you’ve heard this scenario before: a new game is announced at a big event like E3 or PAX. You’re told what the game will contain and you’re instantly excited. Time passes and more information is released, increasing your excitement, and fan theories stir the interest even more. Finally, perhaps after a delay or two, the game is released, but it ultimately fails to live up to your expectati

When it comes to Fable 4 though, there are a lot of qualities from previous games in the series that we hope to see return. Combat has always been one of the most exciting elements, as well as the game’s ability to tell a story that feels as if it is the definition of epic. Where the games tend to go wrong is more in the subtle details, like last year’s ‘Road to Rule’ mechanics — namely the handholding and the third act decision-focused parts of the g

If there’s one thing that gamers everywhere seem to hold their breath for, it’s Halo . Since Bungie parted ways with the property after completing development on Halo: Reach , the reins of the series has been handed over to the more than capable minds at 343 Industries. While the idea of a Halo 4 is just too good to imagine, industry rumors have been pointing to a game not only being under development, but even scheduled for a holiday release. The latest industry rumors point to the next game not being the continuation of Master Chief’s story, but rather an HD remake of Halo: Combat Evolv

Review: Fable II

Without a doubt, Fable II is one of the most anticipated games of the year. Still, in the weeks leading up to its release, the feeling of dread was palpable. Many gamers remember the hype surrounding the original title, only to be disappointed when they received an experience that was great but not the classic they had felt they were promised.

Despite its handful of shortcomings, Final Fantasy 15 has been a resounding success for Square Enix. The game’s story, characters, and environment are all compelling and interesting, and do a great job pulling players into the fantastical wo

Despite first being announced in 2013, and facing multiple delays that have set it back two years, gamers are still excited for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild . With the Nintendo Switch set to release in March 2017, Nintendo fans will have the opportunity to play the new Zelda title on either the Wii U or the new console-handheld hybrid. Hopefully, the open-world Zelda game lives up to the years of hype it’s been build

Anyone who’s seen a Mad Max movie will easily be able to spot the direct influence of those films in Borderlands , Gearbox Software’s colorful, cel shaded open world role-playing shooter. The alien planet of Pandora is a dangerous wasteland and pretty much everyone who lives there is insane, but that’s all part of its charm. The plot of the games follows groups of fortune seekers who are trying to track down mysterious Vaults full of immensely powerful alien technology, and we’d love to see a filmmaker tackle both the offbeat humor and the treasure-hunting quest at the heart of the Borderlands ser

Like most gamers, our team at Game Rant has enjoyed many of the adventure Games cheats released this year, and looks forward to the games set to release in the next year. Much of that excitement spurs from the impressive trailers that have been released over the last 12 months. To commemorate the best and most notable set of trailers released throughout 2016, here are Game Rant’s Top 10 Video Game Trailers of 2

When you do eventually decide to stop snickering over the fact you have to purchase condoms in order to prevent a coinpurse-draining pregnancy in any of your wives (or to avoid nasty STDs from Albion’s ladies of the night), you will be happy to learn that the Quests in this game are varied and entertaining. Even the simplest quest will occasionally blindside you with a deeply profound choice. This is where the morality system really shines, but some would say it is unbalanced. To become a truly evil character you need not leave the first town you are set down in, but to actually max out as a good character will take you a significant amount of hours. To me, unlike the unbalanced economy, the ease of being an evil character and the difficulty of being a good character are as realistic as it can be. It is much easier to rob and steal than it is to take daunting quests and help improve the world you live in. It is up to you to decide whether you will take the instant gratification and ease of an evil character or the more rewarding and difficult path of a pillar of heroism in the society. The quests in Fable II embrace this fact and, while not giving you enough overtly good options, make the game incredibly replayable. You will never, ever be at a loss for something to kill time with in Albion.

One of the main reasons the story falls so flat is your character’s infinite silence. The only way to communicate with other characters is through a series of expressions that only really serve to illicit a base reaction from any NPC that sees them without any real discourse. Sure using the right expression will curry favor with the townspeople of Albion, and the wrong one will help to make them view you are boorish and rude, but it helps to illustrate the core issue with Fable II’s system. The game becomes about the choices you make, but not necessarily about the characters that those choices may alter. Due to the one-dimensional townspeople and lack of real interaction, scenes that should have some amount of emotional resonance fall significantly short. The only real feeling you have for any character is for your faithful canine companion, and even that is tenuous.

Pikachu may pack a more shocking punch than his adorable coloring and facial features would imply, but there’s no denying that his personality, not his lethality, is what makes him the ideal representative of Nintendo’s franchise based almost solely on acquiring p

Given the current Hollywood craze for comic book movies, now is the perfect time for a movie version of inFAMOUS . This open world game casts players as Cole McGrath, a bike courier who gains electricity-based superpowers when he’s caught at the center of a devastating explosion. After the smoke clears, Cole is faced with the choice to either become a superhero and save the citizens of Empire City, or use his powers to become a supervillain and make people fear and despise him. No matter which path you pick, this is one comic book style video game that we definitely want to see on f

‘Fable Heroes’ Review

3. FablePeter Molyneux has become something of a joke to some gamers. He’s become infamous for promising incredible things in his Adventure games Strategy and failing to deliver on such a level that it’s spectacular. Nowhere was this more apparent than with Fable for the Xbox. Peter promised incredible things, like “trees that grow in real time”, “rival factions that go to war with you”, “characters that age over time” and so on. With all this and more going into one game, Fable had to be one of the best things ever, ri

In the last scene of the trailer, two other dinosaurs can be spotted. Vin Diesel delivers his “Lights Out” line and then it cuts to him and the child walking in the open again, this time alone. Right in front of them there are three winged dinosaurs that then take flight. This implies that they are non-hostile, and though they look similar to the first game’s Pterosaurs, there’s a distinctive butterfly like pattern on their wings that sets them apart. These could just be a unique design added to the dino or it could be an entirely new one altogether. Only time will t

Flourishes — charged up versions of each character’s basic attacks — and an AOE attack that sacrifices one heart piece, are also at the player’s disposal as they fight their way through the many enemy types that have pervaded the Fable universe. While the appearance of hollow men, hobbes, and balverines might suggest that this is a Fable game for fans to look forward to, the experience of playing it does

The most iconic dinosaur of all , it should come as no surprise that the T-Rex is making its return and had a big spotlight in the trailer. Called just “Rex” in the first game, the T-Rex in the trailer looks to be slightly larger and equally as clumsy. It also features some stylish furs on its neck and along its spine, perhaps in an effort to create a more realistic representation of the beast. That said, scientists still don’t know exactly what the king of dinosaurs would have looked like, so this is still just a best gu

Fable Heroes feels like a cash grab in the truest sense of the word — a game that has no business carrying the Fable moniker. While each entry in the franchise does fall short of some lofty expectations , they at least aspire to do something original. Fable Heroes , on the other hand, gets a few things right, but they’re not worth your t

After escaping the T-Rex and the enemy clan, Vin Diesel and his group find themselves in a ruin full of technology . Of note, the child in the trailer examines a rock with several carvings on it. Though this mural certainly doesn’t confirm any dinosaurs, it should be said that there are several on it that didn’t show up in the trailer. Aside from the T-Rex and Brontosaurus which already had spotlights, there are at least three other dinosaurs shown that aren’t yet accounted

On the bottom left, players will notice a Parasaur, a dinosaur commonly found in starting areas and on beaches of ARK maps. These herbivores make great pack mules and mounts, as they can carry a lot and still run relatively quickly. Above it there’s a human riding on a Triceratops , one of the best defensive mounts that players can get early on in the first game. Finally, in the top right there is what appears to be a drawing of a Stegosaur, a dinosaur that in the previous game provided great utility for harvesting a variety of different types of resour

Another cool feature is that of photograph locations throughout the map that when touched display a viewpoint from the original Xbox game. This is quite nifty as it allows you to match up with your television and see exactly what has been improved for the Anniversary edition. It’s also said that backgrounds for key players have been written and are viewable upon meeting them, but I was unable to find how to access these. A title update will be supposedly be released on launch day, so perhaps they will become easier to find then. The only real negative of the experience is that it doesn’t show the NPCs that can be interacted with on the map. Unfortunately, this makes it so you can’t rely solely on your tablet/smartphone, which is a bit of a bummer.

The final new feature in Fable Anniversary (besides achievements) is that of SmartGlass, something that is weighing heavier and heavier in overall experience these days. As admitted by Lead Designer Ted Timmins, it was basically implemented here as way to test the technology’s capabilities for future implementations. Thanks to that, there are actually a few interesting features that the app offers. Unsurprisingly, it’s basically an interactive map, but they’ve worked with Prima to also provide the locations of key items and characters (without going into too much detail). While this may seem a bit like cheating at first, it’s helpful enough only to ensure that you won’t get lost and makes it so you won’t result to using a full-blown strategy guide.

Electronic Arts and DICE broke from the current first-person shooter trend and opted to send players back in time rather than into the future of warfare. Battlefield 1 has been a huge success for the publisher and developer, and continues to garner impressive player numbers across all platfo

Bungie’s Story Team Breaks Down Destiny 2′s Silent Protagonist, Ghaul’s Motive

Destiny 2 did a 180 degree turn with how the loot pool dolled out those sweet, sweet items. Where in Destiny it could feel like pulling teeth just to find an exotic, Destiny 2 was happy to shower Guardians in them with its new reward structure. Like everything else in Destiny 2 though, it couldn’t help but have a slight fault, those exotics every Guardian wants just aren’t… exotic. Exotic items in Destiny had a feel about them because they behaved in a way that was reminiscent of some of the quirkier items to come out of video games ( the Cerebral Bore ). They weren’t supposed to be godly, but some of the perks had just enough of a twist to make them feel unique. Only one exotic comes to mind in Destiny 2 that shines in this regard, a new grenade launcher titled “The Colony” that was part of the expansion. The other exotics with Curse of Osiris do look to be pushing in the right direction, but like everything else in Destiny 2, only time will tell with how people feel about these new armaments when preforming.

Including all content from Curse of Osiris in the base game might have helped ease some of the end-game pains that the launch brought with it. It’s not too much more to do, but it might have smoothed over a few wrinkles by including that extra content. It would also have made the loot pool larger; maybe Guardians wouldn’t be as frustrated at the limited item sets, lackluster exotics and other cosmetics. Giving more isn’t always the best idea, but in this case, it could have been.

To complete the more challenging co-op activities in Destiny 2, you’re going to need a fireteam. Bungie is making it easier than ever to find people to play with people online with Clans and Guided Games. Joining a clan will make it easier to find buddies to form your fireteam and take on all the baddies in Destiny 2.

The people running Bungie and Activision aren’t stupid. It takes a great deal of smarts and business acumen to successfully run and grow any kind of company; they know exactly what they’re doing. They’re trying to make it sound like they’re doing their fans a favor, but we wouldn’t be seeing this if that were truly the case. If they really wanted to do their consumers a favor, they could do any of the following:

The European Dead Zone is a dramatic change from the Cosmodrome. While the Cosmodrome was mostly fields dotted with wrecked planes and boats, the EDZ is a quaint European village overtaken by a lush forest. With more verticality and unique architecture, the EDZ gives off a strong first impression.

This new loot box is known as a “Prismatic Matrix” and works very much like a package gacha. The Prismatic Matrix has its own pool of ten possible items for players to pull out of it and players can make ten pulls per week. Once the next weekly reset hits, the matrix will refresh with a stock of ten new items. The Prismatic Matrix only awards items players don’t already have, so each pull will award the player with something new. It sounds good at first, but there are a few catches. Players only get one free pull per week and all the others have to be paid for with real money. Players can’t even bank their weekly pulls in order to guarantee themselves something they want because Destiny 2 will only allow players to bank a maximum of three free pulls. This means that the absolute most one could get for free in a week is four items. That…really doesn’t sound like much of an improvement does it? If anything, these boxes will encourage burst spending as overeager players race to make sure they have all the items available for a given week.

[MW]: We’re just aware of it as you are. It’s harder for us to tell a story, but it has it’s moments. There’s one part in the story where you’re told to speak and Ghost cuts you off. So, we have fun with that.

Destiny is a game with strong lore that does a poor job of presenting it to players. Though Bungie vastly improved the game’s story elements in The Taken King and Rise of Iron, it’s with Destiny 2 where the developer is looking to make it’s biggest strides yet. Featuring a full-fledged campaign, Adventures that tell their own sidestory and new lore items, the story team in Bellevue, Washington have had their hands busy. We got to sit down the Matthew Ward and Jason Harris, members of the Story and Cinematics team to discuss Destiny 2′s plot.

In Destiny, players would drop into the world and be the sole occupants in the world, asides from the infinitely respawning enemies. Destiny 2 changes this by adding NPCs to the open areas. In the EDZ that character is Devrim Kay, a suave sniper who resides in an abandoned church.

The other ill feeling aside from destiny 2 patch notes 2’s launch is knowing we’re following a path already taken that doesn’t seem totally trustworthy. In fact, it’s the same merry-go-round many have already been talking about. We’ve been here before, we’ve seen it. Yes, Destiny 2 will drop some Taken King sized expansion and it probably will fix a lot, but it just doesn’t feel like enough or that Bungie or Activision are trying. Give us guardians something fresh, show us something shiny and new; not a lackluster experience that continually rides on the coat-tails (hardly any to begin with) of the previous title. The gimmick can work for anyone experiencing Destiny for the first time, but it’s not going to work for the players that have been with Destiny since the beginning and the newcomers will pick up on that. When creating a space to play in together, it’s creating a social dialogue, which happens inside the game and out.

Xbox Franchises That Should Make A Comeback on Xbox Series X

However, perhaps the most interesting portrayal of morality – one that Fable should take notes from – is that found in The Witcher 3. Choices in The Witcher 3 have real weight, in part thanks to how well the game portrays its world as being “lived-in.” That manifests itself in many different ways, and on a surface level may not even look like a morality system. Geralt is, after all, a hero, but with his decisions determining who lives, who dies, and, in some cases, the well-being of entire cities, it’s hard to deny the state of the world at the end of the game as a sort of morality system for Ger

Molyneux has become well known at this point for his big and revolutionary ideas, which often end up being beyond the scope of the reality of the games he develops. When the original Fable launched on the original Xbox in 2004, it did not quite have that grand journey that had been promised (although it was close). But, now 16 years later, perhaps technology and design have progressed enough to allow some of those promises and dreams for Fable to finally become a real

Rumors have been swirling for quite some time that Microsoft has a brand new Perfect Dark game in development. According to the rumors, the new Perfect Dark will be third-person , and will be at least partially developed by Gears of War studio The Coalition. Whether or not there’s any truth to these claims remains to be seen, but it would make sense for Microsoft to take advantage of Perfect Dark ‘s popularity and leg

While virtually nothing official is known about a next-gen Fable , there have been plenty of rumors dating all the way back to 2018. But that has not stopped a continued rumor that Xbox has the game under development Click at Adventurejourneyhub UK studio Playground Games, the developers behind the Forza Horizon ser

When the original Fable was in development, the game’s director Peter Molyneux talked about his plans for the game, which at the time was codenamed Project Ego. The main idea was that players would pick up the controller on a 15-year-old whose parents were killed, and in a journey of revenge, players would guide their avatar through an RPG experience shaping their avatar from a teenager to an adult with total freedom of their path. Their avatar would grow up along with the world—there was a famous example that players could plant an acorn as a child and then see it grow into a tree by adulthood—and eventually have to save the entire world on their journey. It was a lifelong pursuit, with players raising up a character from childhood all the way to old

Metroidvania games rarely offer co-op options, which is part of the reason why Guacamelee 2 stands out from the pack so much. Letting players experience the exploration and platforming elements associated with Metroidvanias in a co-op space is a lot of fun, though it helps that Guacamelee 2 is a fantastic game at its core, too. Besides combat and travel, there are plenty of other motion-based opportunities throughout Albion. Activities like corralling chickens, lighting lanterns and moving obstacles may seem mundane, but serve to enrich the experience, making sure there’s always a fresh task to keep players interested. Most of these secondary actions have their own unique movements to avoid redundancies. When it comes to deciding exactly where the next story should take place on the Fable timeline, it’s a tricky choice because of how the history and development of the game’s world change things. Set the story too far back, engineering won’t have progressed enough to allow the guns we saw in the second game, set it too far forward and it could lead to modernization that kills the fantasy fairy tale vibe as with the third g

And that’s more than enough reason to speculate on what I’d want to see from the upcoming fantasy epic from the developers that brought us Forza Horizon 4. Also, here’s the trailer for it below, but it’s you’re seeing “This video is age-restricted” I’m incredibly sorry. YouTube doesn’t like embedded videos anymore! Part of the enjoyment of open-world exploration is that there’s potential to hide things away. Being able to visit a library at the Guild would be great for lore-hungry players. And in Fable, players were able to break in and sneak around villagers’ houses and rob them. But I’d like to be able to see character backstories, so even though robbing is an evil deed in itself, the possible guilt from robbing someone could potentially make you feel even wo

Fable 2 and 3 were great games for many reasons, but they were also great games because of the good boy you get to have at your side throughout. Having the woofy little pupper helping you out in your adventure to locate treasures and defend you in battle made it feel great to have a dog. And with the gaming industry’s obsession with petting random dogs in game worlds, why not give players the chance to pet their own companion at any given t

This idea continues with microtransactions, something that Molyneux has been dead-set on improving. Trust me, I don’t like how microtransactions are being used today , but Molyneux has been working on ways to use them without letting them lean toward the realm of exploitation. He’s condemned the use of microtransactions in the mobile version of Dungeon Keeper , claiming they are not consumer-friendly, but he wants to find a way to make them palatable to an audience. That’s become something of another recurring trait of Molyneux: taking something universally disliked and trying to refine it so that it isn’t hated nearly as much.

While the previous 3 games have been loosely open-world with linear paths and sections, the fact that we’ve seen Playground Games offer a vast open-world with Forza Horizon 4 points to us getting something massive for Fable.
