Avatar: The Last Airbender is my favourite series of all time – I watched the whole 61-episode run three times during the pandemic and have an enormous tattoo based on The Tale of Iroh lining the inside of my right bicep. I’m admittedly a little less into The Legend of Korra , but it’s still probably in my top ten TV shows. This is a universe I’ve devoted hundreds of hours to, and I’ll be damned if Nick is bringing out a Smash -esque brawler that forgets about some of the best characters in animation history.

Of the three initial Nicktoons, Ren & Stimpy _ had the shortest run and was cancelled in 1996, likely because of its multitude of controversies. _Ren & Stimpy _ had a short-lived, widely panned 2003 iteration on SpikeTV called _Ren & Stimpy: Adult Party Cartoon _ which was, as the titled suggests, explicitly for adults. _Ren & Stimpy _ has a fascinating, yet troubled, history for a fascinating, troubled show. But its mark upon animation cannot be ignored, and it’s readily apparent in shows like _SpongeBob SquarePants that have gotten games of their own. It would not be an exaggeration to say that Ren & Stimpy _ paved the way for adult cartoons like _Beavis and Butt-Head and South Park , eit

Hopefully there are more characters, stages, and tracks from Avatar included in the final game. As for now, though, I’m just happy that it seems Avatar is being included to at least some extent. This is my favourite series ever made, and, honestly, I’m relieved to finally see it being represented in a modern video game, even if Aang and Korra are getting into fistfights with the dinosaur from Rugrats.

Both the newly released Override 2: Super Mech League _ and the original sit in an under-represented genre. It seems like an easy assumption that gamers would love giant robots and monsters duking it out as much as _Godzilla moviegoers do , but there have only been a few success stories with that formula over the years. The PlayStation 2 saw titles like War of the Monsters and Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee hitting the sweet spot between arcade action and gameplay substance. Since then, every attempt at recapturing the fun of crushing buildings underfoot in arena combat seems to go the same way as what publisher Modus Games is putting out in 2020 – the action is still fun, but there’s just not a game to back it up, as it ends up let down by its narrative and other eleme

The small arenas provide chaotic fun against human opponents, and there’s definitely fun to be had with Override 2 with a group of like-minded buddies on a couch. However, the online focus and complete lack of a campaign structure kill any drive to keep unlocking cosmetics and bots in single player, and those are the only two options available. Put as simply as possible, _Override 2: Super Mech League _ feels like a demo for a larger experience that doesn’t exist. Even as a value-priced title, there’s little reason to dive in for all but the most dedicated fans of mechanized com

That’s just a stage, though. I mean, it would be weird to have Avatar stages and no Avatar characters, but it’s not necessarily impossible. Fortunately, the actual cover art for All-Star Brawl Stars best brawlers|https://brawlstarsinsight.com/ features at least two silhouettes that are unmistakably supposed to represent Avatar characters. I’ve circled Korra and Aang below, who can be distinguished by their braid and ear, respectively.

Korra’s braids are usually pretty thin, but if you watch an action sequence from the show you’ll see that her hair thickens in combat. Meanwhile, Aang’s bald head and distinctive ears separate his silhouette from those of pretty much every other Nickelodeon character ever created. As protagonists of some of Nick’s biggest shows, they’re natural shoo-ins for a game – especially a fighting game. Still, it’s refreshing to see some confirmation that we’ve got at least one Avatar stage and two Avatar characters. If they weren’t in All-Star Brawl, there’s no way in hell I’d have considered playing it. Now, though… Well, I might start playing Smash again so I can become an esports pro as a Korra main.

Override 2 will default into bot matches if necessary, and that might be an inevitability.
